Shanghai Maglev is the fastest commercial train in the world with an incredible top speed of 431km/h (238 mph), completing the 30km journey from Shanghai Longyang Station to Pudong Airport in just 7 minutes. Levitating on an electromagnetic field, the Shanghai Maglev is a surprisingly smooth ride even at the top speed, although even a mild turn in the track is felt with a substantial tilt and a strong outward centrifugal force.
1. Video of our journey
We documented the full 2.5 minute acceleration from 0 to 100, 200, 250, 300, 400 up to the top speed of 431km/h, upon which everything outside becomes a giant blur, bridges fly by and cars seem to stand still on the highway nearby.

3. Tickets and Schedule
Tickets are reasonably priced at RMB 50 (USD 8) for one-way or RMB 80 (USD 12) for round-trip, with a RMB 10 discount if you show proof of purchased flight tickets. While trains run every 15 minutes, please check the schedule (copied below) as the trains only achieve the top speed 431km/h from 9:00 to 10:45 in the morning and from 15:00 to 15:45; otherwise the train runs at “only” 300km/h so you wouldn’t want to miss out on the fun of going 431km/h! 🙂
